Sustainability Excellence Award

The Sustainability Excellence Award (formerly Eco Beauty Award) recognizes a brand that has moved further toward the goal of sustainability. The Award was established to encourage taking steps towards sustainability within the beauty industry. Eligible entries must demonstrate that measurable step changes have been implemented within the past 3 years.

The criteria for this award are based upon the below science-based sustainability principles1 promoted by The Natural Step. The CEW Sustainability Excellence Award recognizes brands that are seeking to reduce their impact on the issues described below and by doing so become more sustainable. Please note that you may only win once for this award.

How Are Sustainability Excellence Award Entries Scored? Brands will be scored on a scale of 1-5 on how they have implemented measurable change through the lens of each sustainability principle on the chart. It’s important that you provide us with as much information as possible on the chart submission form as finalists will be ranked from the top highest scores.

To become more sustainable a company must embrace the following principles: Examples

Sustainability Criteria 1 – How does your brand help to reduce the use of fossil fuels and mined materials? Consider energy used to produce product

Sustainability Criteria 2 – How does your brand reduce introduction of non-biodegradable materials to our environment? Is product fully biodegradable?

Sustainability Criteria 3 – How does your brand help to reduce the loss or damage to natural resources? Consider how ingredients are grown

Sustainability Criteria 4 – How does your brand demonstrate consideration for peoples' needs and rights? Labor practices and relationships with communities from which your product ingredients come
