CEW’s Beauty Insider Awards attracts entries from the most innovative products of the year, and the finalists selected are destined to shake-up the beauty world. From new anti-aging lip formulas to tools for just about every part of the body, here is a list of the top trends emerging from the 800+ product entries.

MAKEUP

• #NoFilter (Face product, mass + prestige): Contouring and color correction were strong trends in face makeup in 2015. Palettes with highlighters, bronzers, skin perfectors and buildable formulas appealed to all skin colors and skin types. According to the NPD Group, makeup drove 26% of all new launches.

• All Eyes On Me (Eye product, mass + prestige)

  • Brows: Sticks, gels and creams were created to fill in, shape, define and tame brows. Sales of brow products, said NPD, grew 24% in the US.
  • Mascara: Lashes were lifted to new heights to create dramatically-long curves. NPD reported mascara sales grew 14% in 2015, reaching $500 million.

• Seal It With a Kiss: (Lip Product, mass + prestige): You name the texture, lip products delivered! Finishes ranged from velvet to velour to suede finish to dry matte to high-shine, covering every base. Matte prevailed as the biggest trend within the texture lip.

TOOLS

• Device Advice (Skin Tools): Last year we saw tools for just about every body part, including a mask infused with copper for around the eyes, an electronic foot file, a pedicure brush, a device just for men, a back scrubber and on and on.

• DIY Style (Hair Tools):
Brushes and irons got revamped in 2015. Brushes were created to dry hair thanks to built-in motor technology within handles. Irons incorporated bristles so that styling and brushing became 2-in-1.

TREATMENT

Lip Service (Lip Treatment): Women want younger looking lips. Treatments that plump, hydrate and serve up anti-aging ingredients are all the rage.

Nailed It (Nail Treatment): With the proliferation of manicures, nails are getting battered. And they need fixing. More treatments came out this year than ever before, with formulas that fill ridges, reduce peeling, address white spots– there’s even a mask for nails.

SPECIAL AWARDS

New Game in Town (Indie Award): Indie scents were in big demand in 2015 as women looked for formulas that were specific to their attitude and personality.

(H)appy Beauty (Best Beauty App): Delivering on-demand services is where many apps focused in 2015, from blow outs to makeup application to virtual makeup try-ons for photos.

The Beauty Insider Award winners leading these trends will be announced live at a luncheon, held in partnership with Meredith Corporation, on May 13 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
