Amazon has announced the opening of a new hair salon that will implement the latest technology, products and services in hair care and styling.

Amazon Salon, to be based in London’s Spitalfields neighborhood, will measure 1,500 square feet and will be located on Brushfield Street. Hair care and styling services at Amazon Salon will be provided by Elena Lavagni, owner of Neville Hair & Beauty, an independent salon based in London with roots in the community for more than 20 years.

“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, U.K. Country Manager, Amazon. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

Elena and her team have provided hair services for Paris Fashion Week and the Cannes Film Festival, and are known for cutting-edge hair and beauty treatments. The salon will offer cuts and blow dry, full head highlights, balayage, texturizer treatments, and braids.

Amazon employees will be the first customers to try out the salon, with access to experimenting with different virtual hair colors using augmented reality technology, utilizing Fire tablets at each styling station and documenting their new look in a dedicated creative area.

The salon will retail a bevvy of luxury professional products where customers can learn about and purchase items via point-and-learn technology. This will allow a customer to point at a product they are interested in on a display shelf and information on the item will appear on a display screen. To order products, customers can scan the relevant QR code on the shelf to visit the product detail page on Amazon.co.uk and purchase, with delivery direct to their home.

Amazon Salon will be open to bookings to the general public in the coming weeks. The salon looks to be an experiential venue where Amazon will showcase new products and technology; there are no current plans to open additional Amazon Salon locations.

Special safety measures have been taken throughout the salon, including providing free face masks and sanitizer, temperature checks and separation screens.
