BeautyKind, the online beauty retailer that donates a percentage of sales to charity, has shuttered.

In a statement, to Beauty Insider, Beth Bell, the company’s Charity Director said, “We at BeautyKind are so grateful to our brand and charity partners who stood alongside us as we aimed to spread beauty and kindness to everyone. Over the past four years we have worked diligently to reshape the beauty industry model to incorporate a way for people to give back to charities like Cancer + Careers, at no additional cost to the consumer. Sadly, we have lost our funding and our final day of operations was February 15, 2019. Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best!”

In May, BeautyKind, which is privately held, closed a new round of funding and upgraded its online platform, giving its customers access to more than 100 brands and 1.5 million charities to choose from. As recently as September, Lisa Green, BeautyKind’s President, had been vocal on the site’s mission to unite cause, commerce and community. “Our business model was built around the charity component. It was never built as an afterthought. Our mission and vision has always been to make a positive impact. We don’t have bricks and mortar, we don’t have overheads. It’s pretty exciting,” she said.
