Cashmere Mist was never meant to be a fragrance, said Donna Karan about the brand’s iconic perfume in a recently released documentary film. “I wanted to create something that would live on forever, beyond my time, and out of that came Cashmere Mist,” said the designer.

The making of the fragrance from its initial roots as a bath and body collection to becoming one of the most successful American perfumes is chronicled in a three-part series, The Making Of An Icon, available on a microsite specifically created to celebrate 20 years of Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist fragrance. Upon landing on the site, viewers are invited to scroll through the film’s chapters to experience the journey of the fragrance’s development.

The documentary also features Linda Wells, Allure Founder and Editor in Chief; Nick Calderone, the perfumer who created Cashmere Mist; and Trey Laird, Donna Karan’s former Creative Director who worked on the fragrance campaign. Click here to watch the full series.
