Walgreens and Duane Reade stores nationwide are getting ready to offer “a slice of Sephora” with the launch of CIRCA, a new line of cosmetics that’s looking to bring timeless beauty to makeup for the eyes, lips and face.

“We were inspired by this idea of timeless beauty. We’re taking a look back at an era when women really took the time to ‘get ready’ and put on their makeup as part of a routine and regimen. The CIRCA brand aspires to bring that emotion and nostalgia to today’s modern woman,” said Kamila Golebiewska, Senior Brand Manager, Product Development & Marketing, Maesa, the maker of CIRCA.

“It’s like a slice of Sephora,” added Kina Guyton, Walgreens Director of Beauty Owned Brands.

Perhaps as exciting as the launch of the 133 products and shades to choose from is the fact that actress Eva Mendes serves as Creative Director of the brand and had a hand in its development. Eva, along with Walgreens and Maesa executives, debuted the new line Wednesday morning at Duane Reade’s 40 Wall Street store.

“What’s exciting about CIRCA is the quality is so good because funds are put into making the product with great formulas and having beautiful packaging, as opposed marketing and advertising,” Eva told a group of beauty editors. As part of her Creative Director role, Eva is the spokesperson for the brand and will appear on displays for the makeup collection. Some of Eva’s favorite CIRCA products include the Ultrasuede Cream Blush in Portofino, an apricot shade, as well as the Magic Hour Illuminating Concealer.

“As a mom to a six-month old baby, this is everything,” she said of the concealer, which is modeled after department store products and is designed to brighten the complexion and bring light and radiance to the skin.

Like many of CIRCA’s items, the blush and concealer offer buildable coverage. And, items such as foundations come in an extensive shade range so that they meet the needs of all skin tones.

“I remember when I first started out in this business 15, 16 years ago, it was really hard for makeup artists to match my skin. The products weren’t available,” Eva said.

Products also include Color Absolute Velvet Luxe Lipstick, which has a velvety soft, semi-matte finish and is enriched with jojoba and sweet almond oil to keep lips moist. It is available in 12 shades. There’s also the Color Focus Eye Shadow Palette, color trios that can be used to highlight, build deep color and lines. Shadows come with a dual-sided applicator, with one side having a suede-like sponge and the other a brush. There are six color palettes to choose from.

Prices range from $8-$15.

“There aren’t any professional brands providing women with a full range of color cosmetics that addresses a variety of skin tones at the drugstore level. The CIRCA brand makes professional makeup artist quality formulas accessible and affordable to women everywhere,” said Kamila.
