While L’Oréal’s digital acceleration has moved up a gear with the acquisition of Canadian artificial intelligence company, ModiFace, e-commerce sales during the first quarter ended March 31 saw a 33.8% gain, now accounting for 8.8% of sales. On a like-for like basis, based on a comparable scope of consolidation and constant exchange rates, the growth of L’Oréal group sales grew 6.8%, but on a reported basis, sales dipped 1% due to the negative impact of currency fluctuations. Here, a breakdown of the company’s various divisions.

Professional Products: PPD posted 7.1% decrease based on reported figures. The company said the United States is continuing to see improvement; the Asia Pacific Zone has returned to growth; Eastern Europe is maintaining its momentum; Latin America is accelerating, driven by significant growth in Brazil; and Western Europe is held back by the sluggishness of some major markets. Hair color is continuing to benefit from the strong growth of Shades EQ by Redken and Dialight by L’Oréal Professionnel, along with SoColor by Matrix. In hair care, the renewal of the Série Expert lines by L’Oréal Professionnel is continuing to prove successful, as well as the customized in-salon treatment, Fusio-Dose by Kérastase.

Consumer Products: CPD posted a 4.9% decrease based on reported figures.L’Oréal Paris is accelerating its growth thanks to lipstick Color Riche Shine, and good performances in skin care. The brand is accelerating, especially in China and the U.S., where the relaunch of Elvive in hair care is promising. There are also good results in makeup for the recent launches of Maybelline New York, such as TotalTemptation mascara and SuperStay Matte Ink lipstick. The Division has good momentum in China, India and the Africa, Middle East Zone. But it is facing persistent difficulties in France and Brazil. It is maintaining its strong growth in e-commerce.

L’Oréal Luxe: L’Oréal Luxe saw 4.4% growth based on reported figures.Skin care is accelerating, reflecting success from Lancôme Génifique, boosted by the launch of Génifique HydroGel Mask, and Kiehl’s with the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate. Giorgio Armani, with its license extended until 2050, is posting strong growth in fragrances and makeup. Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent are achieving rapid growth in face makeup. Q1 was also notable for House 99 by David Beckham in the United Kingdom, the success in France of Yes I Am by Cacharel and the launch of the first Proenza Schouler fragrance, Arizona, in the U.S. Growth is driven strongly by Asia, especially China and Hong Kong, and by Travel Retail.

Active Cosmetics: Active Cosmetics saw a gain of 9.1% based on reported figures.All the zones contributed to growth, with acceleration in Asia and North America most significant. La Roche-Posay is launching Hyalu B5, the new anti-wrinkle dermatological corrector for sensitive skin, and is continuing to grow in all its markets. Vichy is maintaining good momentum, benefiting from the sustained success of its recent launches Minéral 89, Liftactiv anti-oxydant & anti-fatigue fresh shot and Neovadiol Rose Platinium,particularly in Asia, North America and Latin America. SkinCeuticals is continuing to post outstanding growth figures, especially in North America, and has doubled its sales in Asia. CeraVe continues to accelerate strongly in North America, while significantly increasing its market share.
