In a move signaling that niche luxe scent is still a hot commodity, L’Orèal announced it’s signed an agreement to acquire Atelier Cologne.

Founded in 2009 by Sylvie Ganter and her husband, Christophe Cervasel, Atelier Cologne specializes in niche perfumery sold in select retailers. The firm, based in Paris, creates and manufactures Colognes Absolues, pure perfumes blending citrus notes with the finest natural raw materials.

Nicolas Hieronimus, President L’Oréal Selective Divisions, said the brand will join the L’Orèal Luxe brand portfolio, which includes Privé, Le Vestiaire des parfums by Yves Saint Laurent, Maison Lancôme, Replica by Maison Margiela, as well as the Ralph Lauren Collection.

Sylvie was named a Great Idea for Fragrance Honoree in 2015 by CEW and IFF, citing the brand’s success in building a solid distribution network, which includes more than 800 points of sale in 40 countries, including Sephora and Neiman Marcus. The brand also has six stand-alone stores, with three in France, two in the United States and one in Hong Kong.

Prior to founding Atelier Cologne, Sylvie worked for Fresh and Hermès.
