First half prestige beauty sales at U.S. department stores were $4.94 billion, flat with the prior year’s time period. On an adjusted basis, to normalize for the extra week in January 2013, sales were up 3%. Fragrance sales were flat, or up 3% for the adjusted time period; makeup sales grew 3%, or 6% for the adjusted time period; skincare dipped 2%, or grew 1% on an adjusted calendar.

Notable segments of growth for first half of the year were fragrance juices, which were up 1% (or +4% adjusted); makeup eye brow, which grew 33% (or +37% adjusted); lip color, which blossomed 8% (or +12% adjusted) and skincare mask, which is up 52% (or +57% adjusted.)
