Entrepreneur and color expert Nonie Creme writes about her latest venture, Colour Prevails, a mass market cosmetics line for Walgreens, and the trends she’s seeing for summer beauty.

Ever wonder how trends start? Is there some secret club of trendsetters who meet in dark alleys and decide our fate? How do people always seem to know what to like? Simultaneously?!

It all starts with people like you. It’s about what you like, and without you, no trend would be able to take hold and become a hit.

We glean the beginnings of trends from things going on around us: movies, popular TV shows, books, music, even each other. One of my friends has such personal style and charisma, that she can coax our entire gang into gold booties and hats in one sitting. We may look ridiculous, but we feel ridiculously cool, and that, my friends, is the beginning of a trend. Fashion designers carefully watch street style, and trust me, you are influencing the runways more than you know.

But what about beauty trends? Well, you’d be surprised at how intrinsically tied fashion and beauty are.

I’m excited to tell you about the trend forecasting I’ve been doing for my new brand, Nonie Creme Colour Prevails, which is sold exclusively at Walgreens. The brand embraces all my fashion roots, but is really about giving people easy tools to experiment within their beauty routine and to “know yourself, then be yourself!” When I am developing new products, first I look across all the fashion collections and call out any key colors – but I am also looking for any themes, time periods, or embellishments that resonate across collections. What’s especially

important are trends that run across very disparate brands. If I see something at Chanel, J. Crew, and Alexander McQueen–it’s officially a thing!

Beauty Trends On Tap:

• Bleached eyebrows always seem to pop up at fashion shows. Are we really being told to try this?! Don’t panic. It’s about de-emphasizing. This trend is telling us to focus on bone structure, drawing out our cheekbones and jawline. It’s telling us to focus on the face as a whole, not just a single feature. Soooo, get those sculpture highlight/contour sticks ready. Sculpture is a new product from Walgreens’ exclusive Colour Prevails range. It’s designed to work without brushes, so even a total beginner can achieve a contoured face, using only their fingertips.

• “Tired” eyes are also a trend. Sounds terrifying, right? It’s actually the easiest and quickest way to beautifully switch up your look for spring. Lots of smudgy eyes have been going around, but they’re different this season. These aren’t black, rock n roll, slept-in eyes. They’re loaded with brown and bronze metallic powders that go all the way around the eye, creating a soft circle of shimmering smudge that’s thrillingly simple to achieve. Using Colour Prevails Precision Painter with your favorite eye shimmer powder means you simply cannot mess this up – it’s too easy! Layer bronze over a mocha brown for maximum impact.

• Spring is always the time to add flush back to your cheeks. After a winter of being “pale and interesting” we are all ready to be “bronzed and bold.” Colour Prevails Bashful Biscuit sets contain luxury, department store formulations with a pan of both blush and bronzer, so you can create every look from shy to sun-kissed to St. Tropez, baby.

Make up and fashion go hand in hand, so throw on your newest dress and try the makeup trends here to see which ones fit. As always, know yourself, then be yourself. There’s room for all of us, and you can always sit with me.
