Limited editions and collaborations in the beauty industry are nothing new, but the artists offering themselves up for a pairing is.

The latest in the beauty bin is a trio. British born Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, co-founders of the Marchesa brand, are joining forces with Revlon this fall. Known for their ornate, red-carpet gowns, the designers, who met at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, will release eight different nail wrap patterns inspired by the company’s couture gowns, called Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Appliqués. Three different collections will be released over the next year and a half. Expect lip and eye products, along with beauty tools to follow as well.

This summer a collaboration between NARS cosmetics and French designer Pierre Hardy launched. Pierre, who in the past decade was Creative Director for Hermes Fine Jewelry, rolled out his own shoe line for men—followed by fancy footwear for the ladies. Inspired by his 2013 high-fashion shoe collection, the joint venture offers six nail polish duos and two blushes embossed with Pierre’s signature shoebox packaging.

Lancôme took a collective step forward in June when Parisian fashion house Lanvin’s Creative Director, Alber Elbaz, released his conceptualized designs for several of Lancôme’s existing products. Born in Morocco and raised in Israel, Alber focused his creation on peepers. Lancôme Hypnôse offers four mascaras and four shades of shadows and liner palettes, not to mention a pair of false lashes. Colorfully cartoonish, his hand drawn, whimsical illustrations impart blue stars, pink polka dots, red hearts and green eyes – making his packaging the most playful of the lot.

British clothing designer Matthew Williamson also entered the pairing arena when he teamed up with Benefit Cosmetics in late spring. Revisiting the flamboyant Seventies, Matthew gave a nod to Studio 54 and disco with his “The Rich Is Back” makeup kit. Like Pierre, Matthew has spent years in the fashion world, this being his first foray into beauty products.
