Earlier this year, The Future Laboratory reported that consumers are moving away from the desire for immediate fulfillment and instead are seeking solutions that will be valuable to them in the long run. To keep up with this growing demand, many spas are now offering new products and techniques with the goal of providing long-lasting well being and beauty benefits. Here, a summary of the highlights from the 21st annual iSpa East Coast Media Event, which provides access to some of the best global spas and innovations in the industry.

SENSORY EXPERIENCES

Omni Hotels & Resorts: At the Omni Hotels & Resorts in Asheville, NC guests can experience a color and light wrap with aura imaging, which includes music, light, heat and aromatherapies to help achieve long-term inner balance and harmony. Guests also have access to 20 water features, including therapeutic mineral-based pools, waterfalls, cavernous rock walls, arches and tunnels.

Eau Spa at Palm Beach Resort & Spa: Inside the 42,000-square-foot spa in Lantana, Florida, guests can enjoy The Eau Spa Wonderland, which includes a self-centered garden, wishing well, scrub and polish bars and 19 treatment rooms customizable with scents, music and lighting color. Among the many services the spa offers is HydraFacial MD, a non-invasive device used to exfoliate, extract, restore and prevent damage while providing long-term skin health benefits.

HOLISTIC HEALTH

The Mayflower Grace Spa: Inspired by William H. Sheldon’s Somatypes, the Mayflower Grace Spa, located in Washington, CT, offers highly customized therapies to address imbalances and increase longevity. Therapists determine the chemical constitution of each guest and create a special blend that delivers transdermal nutrition based on their biochemical needs via body wraps and soaks. The treatment, Elemental Body Therapies, exclusively uses oils from Earth Matters Apothecary, which act as a catalyst to draw out toxins and promote nutrient absorption. As part of the therapy, guests also receive specially designed meal recommendations for their constitution to promote optimal vitality.

Travassa Experiential Resorts: At Travassa Experiential Resorts location in Austin, Texas guests can take an active role in their heath and well being by attending classes with an herbalist to learn how to make their own tinctures, an edible liquid containing the extract of a plant, traditionally used in herbal medicine as a remedy or supplement for the body.

INDIGENOUS RITUALS

Grand Velas Resorts: Inspired by the Huichol native people, the Rivera Nayarit in Mexico offers the resort’s signature “Grand Cora Massage,” designed to restore emotional, intellectual and spiritual wellness. The massage starts with a ritual of sounds performed by wixaricas instruments including cymbals and rain sticks. A ceremonial “eye of God” is placed on the back to open energy and create trust between the recipient and massage therapist.

Jindilli: Owned and operated by the Roy family, Jindilli farms have 550 acres of macadamia groves in Australia and are the source for the brand’s macadamia skin enrichment products that can be found in spas across the country. Many of the products do not need to be washed off, allowing for long-lasting skin health benefits as it continues to nourish the skin after treatment. To complement the face and body product offerings, the company introduced “Rites of Renewal,” a spa menu of services featuring unique massage, body, face, nail and hair treatments inspired by ingenious purification rituals. The treatments use BommaGlam, a boomerang shaped tool similar to the one used in Jindilli’s Australian heritage, for lymphatic stimulation and cleansing.
