Most consumers know how important it is to take care of the health of their hair. And now they’re onto the latest hair-related health trend: scalp care.

In the world of hair care, products that work to ensure a healthy scalp, free of irritation, dryness, or excessive hair shedding, are making for a rapidly growing category.

According to NielsenIQ, the search for “scalp health” increased by more than 11 percent over the last 12 months. Other scalp health-related search terms that have seen year-over-year growth include “clarifying” (11 percent), “antifungal” (47 percent), and “psoriasis treatment” (110 percent).

One of the factors contributing to the growing interest in scalp care is due to increased hair loss caused by Covid-19. Fever, a common symptom of Covid-19, can cause telogen effluvium, a type of hair shedding that happens when more hair than normal enters the shedding (telogen) phase, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

As reported by ReportLinker, the global hair and scalp care market is predicted to reach $121.4 billion by 2027, rising at a 6.5 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Products designed to promote scalp health include a wide variety of ingredients such as blue tansy, an essential oil used in scalp care products to calm irritated skin and repair damaged hair. This ingredient can be found in items such as Adwoa Beauty’s Blue Tansy Treatment Serum, a Beauty Creators Award product nominee.
