This could be the year that makeup captures more sales as consumers find more excitement in the category this holiday season, according to The NPD Group. Here, the top holiday trends across makeup, fragrance and skin care.
Growth came largely from Lauder’s recent acquisitions of Too Faced and BECCA. The company also benefitted from a continued acceleration in China, Hong Kong, travel retail and global online, as well as strength in several developed and emerging markets in Europe.
Interestingly, prestige skin care growth outpaced makeup, making this the headline story for the quarter. Every major segment in skin care grew, and at a higher rate than last year, while makeup’s growth has slowed.
