Why is CEW membership important to you?

I believe strongly in the power of women-centered organizations, and CEW connects my work life to my values around collaborating with and inspiring other female colleagues in the industry.

Do you have any tips for getting the most out of CEW membership?

Prioritize the events and webinars – both for the informational aspect as well as nurturing my network.  I never regret blocking the time for education and social time (even if virtually).

I also often reference the beauty news section of the site: it is a one-stop shop for the latest in beauty trends and reports by category.

What do you love most about working in the beauty Industry?

I love working in a thriving and growing industry that is “tip of the spear.” As a result, we are placed at the forefront of innovation. Depending on your exact role, that could include R&D, technology, marketing and media.  In my role at Conde Nast, I am able to bring those first-mover industry insights to our core categories, and to adjacent businesses.

What do you feel is the most important quality for someone to possess in order you have a successful career?

The ability to connect your passions, with your skill set, and experience leads to fulfilling and successful careers.  For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to history, culture and exploration. It’s why I studied cultural anthropology as an undergrad. It’s why my travel itineraries include destinations in Central America, Latin America and Africa, it’s why my bookshelf includes biographies about Teddy Roosevelt and Jane Goodall and it’s why I’ve been a strong builder in business – exploring new territories to forge forward and unlock new opportunities while always understanding and honoring the past.

How important has mentorship been in your career journey?

I have been fortunate enough to have had a few wonderful and insightful mentors throughout my career.  It has been their advice – and often the stuff that is difficult to hear – that has been the most valuable. My most cherished mentor taught me about the importance of resilience — to be able to reflect on the negative experiences (not just the successes) to push myself forward.  In fact, I still find that my trials and tribulations were the times when I grew and improved the most.
