Just when it seemed beauty had reached its single-focused, beauty bar quota, another has appeared. Silver Mirror facial bar, which targets the skin enthusiast, joins a bevvy of beauty retailers positioned as expert in any of a number of beauty treatments, which to-date includes brows, blowouts, waxing, tanning, nail treatments, lash extensions and makeup application. Silver Mirror, which opened in May, is located at 862 Lexington Avenue, at 65th Street.

Longtime college friends, Matt Maroone and Cindy Kim, the latter of whom co-founded Korean skin care and makeup site Peach and Lily, own the six-seat, open concept brick-and-mortar.

“The idea of a facial bar isn’t very new,” said Cindy. “There’s Skin Laundry, which is laser focused, and Heyday, which positions facials as part of one’s everyday life. But our philosophy and approach is very different. We are insanely obsessed with results.”

Cindy added that in Korea, women get facials every week.

“There, facials are about taking care of your skin and seeing results, as opposed to getting pampered, which is what the culture is here,” she said. “We felt there was a white space in the market. People are either jaded about facials, or they’ve not seen improvement, or they’ve had traumatic experiences, and so we wanted to create something to change that.”

Presently, Silver Mirror offers nine different types of facials, ranging from antiaging to brightening, available in 30- or 50-minute increments. Prices start at $75 and go to $130, depending on the service and any add-on options, including neck care and “lift it” areas of concentration. The real wow factor comes from numerous offerings that are packed into each facial. After a deep cleansing, most services include a light peel, a hydro-peel, microdermabrasion, micro-current, micro-needling, a specialty mask or a super serum.

“We do LED therapy and full oxygen treatments in each session,” Cindy said. “Plus, we offer cool devices from around the world because we’re in the business of making incredible facials accessible for people. Our goal is to change the way consumers think about, take care of and maintain their skin.” Silver Mirror uses brands such as IS Clinical, Amarte´, Sanitas, Janimarini, Atopalm, SkinCeuticals and Tina K.

Another bonus? Extended hours. Silver Mirror is opened from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Whatever approach they’re taking, it appears to be working.

“Women are becoming far more skin care savvy,” Cindy said. “About 60 percent to 70 percent of our clients come back every two weeks.”

And booking for one’s next appointment at checkout is extremely high. That said, it’s no surprise a membership package is launching this month.

Matt mentioned that along with the importance of location – they specifically wanted the Upper East Side and high traffic visibility – credibility and legitimacy was key, which they garnered via positive word of mouth and getting tastemakers and celebrity clientele on board.

Matt and Cindy plan to open a second location in Manhattan next year.
