Ying Chu is an award-winning journalist, beauty expert, and creative consultant. In 2019, she joined VIOLET GREY as editor-in-chief, a role in which she oversees content, product curation, and the artistry committee.
Born in Shanghai, China and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Chu studied at Toronto’s Ryerson University and started her career at Canadian fashion magazine Flare. An opportunity to lead beauty content for the style and culture start-up Suede brought her to New York in 2004. She has since held senior editorial posts at Vogue, Seventeen, Marie Claire, and Glamour.
A trusted industry pro, Chu often lends her expertise on-camera and in interviews for a range of media outlets including Good Morning America and The New York Times, and in live discussions for organizations such as Fashion Group International.
Chu lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.
