CEW Beauty Awards recognize the most innovative beauty products of the year. Winners of the award are selected by CEW’s U.S. members – 10,000+ beauty industry professionals who know beauty’s best. Winners are revealed at the annual Luncheon in NYC.


CEW is an international organization of 10,000 individual members representing a cross section of beauty and related businesses. The composition of membership includes leading brands, indies, retailers, media, and suppliers. CEW’s primary purpose is to provide programs online and in person to develop careers and knowledge of the beauty industry. CEW provides opportunities to connect and gain industry knowledge through networking events, trend reports, industry newsletters, interactive seminars, and industry leader talks.

The beauty industry’s highest honor, the CEW Beauty Awards recognize the most innovative beauty products of the year, as voted by CEW members, industry professionals & experts in the field of beauty.  All 2020 Entries must be for products released in the year 2019.

Winning and finalist products used the CEW seal in television and print ads, online, in-store, product stickers and direct mail.

Finalists Vote: CEW members, working in the beauty and related industries including manufacturers, suppliers, retailers and media.

Winners Vote: CEW Board of Governors and select industry experts.

All voting is confidential, and is officially tabulated by Ernst & Young.

  • Be available in the US in 2019 (Launched after January 1, 2019 and before December 31, 2019)
  • Be a new product release in 2019. If a product is re-released in 2019 with a new formula under the same name, product is eligible for entry.
  • You do not have to be a CEW member to enter a product
  • A brand may enter up to two products per category.
    Anything over two will NOT BE ACCEPTED
  • Collections cannot be submitted as one entry
  • Any award category with fewer than six entries will be dropped from the 2020 Awards. All applicable entry fees will be returned. Entries dropped/withdrawn after the voting begins will not affect the viability of the category.

  • Re-packaging of existing products
  • Shade enhancements  for existing products
  • New sizes for existing products
  • Brush cleaners, makeup bags/cases, sharpeners
  • Limited edition products


Entries in the Prestige category are defined as: A product that has launched in a channel that is not a mass, food, or drug retailer. Prestige outlets include but are not limited to Department Stores, Spas, Salons, Specialty Stores, Internet, and Television (QVC and, HSN).

Entries in the Mass category are defined as: Any brand within the makeup, cosmetics, skincare, body care (lotions, sprays, oils) and hair care categories which is first introduced in the Food, Drug or Mass Merchandiser retail channels, with wide-ranging distribution.

Please note: If a product is introduced in a Mass and Prestige channel at the same time, it should default to categorization in the Mass channel.

CEW retains the right to determine a product’s eligibility and the category in which it competes. CEW’s decisions are final and binding.

The fee for a product entry is $650 per submission before September 29, 2019. Late entries submitted up to October 25, 2019 (11:59pm EST) will pay an additional fee of $75.

No, entrants are NOT required to submit a product as part of the entry. CEW may request a sample during the review process to ensure that the product meets entry requirements.

Be sure to upload an image of your product entry (Indie Brand Award, Sustainability Excellence Award, and Best Beauty Tech Award entrants, upload company logo)

  • Images should be cropped to 200 x 200 pixels
  • Files cannot be larger than 250k and must be jpeg, gif or png

CEW’s Indie Awards celebrates the creativity, originality and entrepreneurial spirit at independent beauty brands. It’s designed to engage and introduce beauty consumers to the ingenuity of an “indie”.

CEW Indie Beauty Awards are the only awards that:

Recognizes the achievements of small independent companies
Is voted on by beauty “insiders,” the CEW Board and industry experts
Offers additional exposure through CEW retail partners

Companies who enter the Indie Beauty Awards must:

Manufacture beauty products and have majority ownership (51% or more) of the company.

The CEW Iconic Beauty Award recognizes two products (one in mass & one in prestige) that have transcended  in the industry. To be iconic, the product must be instantly recognizable by the majority of beauty insiders and must demonstrate longevity in beauty.

Eligible products must:

  • Still be currently available at retail in the US
  • Be from a product category that is currently included in the Beauty Awards
  • Product may be reformulated or have new packaging
  • The Iconic Beauty Award finalists are voted on by CEW members, winners are voted on by consumers. All voting is confidential and is officially tabulated by EY.


The CEW Beauty Awards Product Demo is an integral part of the Awards program that allows entries to showcase their product to the voting members. With over 3,000 attendees, this event gives members the chance to experience the entries, both at an exhibit area and in the product demo gift bag*, helping to inform their vote. Participation in the Product Demo is OPTIONAL. *Participation in the product demonstration gift bag is also optional.

Step 1: Confirm and submit approval of your product information to Events by April 9, 2020

Step 2: Send five (5) full-sized samples of your finalist product and a high-resolution EPS image for press promotional purposes to Events by April 9, 2020

Step 3: Confirm participation in the Beauty Awards Luncheon gift bag.
Each brand should budget for 600 pieces.

Step 4: Attend the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon.
At least one representative of your company MUST attend and purchase a ticket or be seated at a purchased table at the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon at the New York Hilton in mid May.

CEW’s PR consumer outreach garners millions of impressions; as such we utilize the 5 product samples in press outreach.

Winners are announced live at the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown on May 15, 2020.

We ask that all finalists attend the Luncheon to support CEW and formally accept their award should they win.

Submitting product in the CEW Beauty Awards Luncheon Gift Bag is an excellent opportunity to showcase your product to the over 1,200 industry professionals who attend the Luncheon. While it is not mandatory, many of the Finalists selected opt to include product.
